A familiar institution on Bunker Hill is shuttering and getting a big renovation.
McCormick and Schmick’s, which has long served up steaks, seafood and big martinis to area workers, is closing and being transformed into Monkee, a Cantonese restaurant.
The $4.5 million renovation comes from the M2K Group, which owns Wokcano, Spear, Bunker Hill Bar and Grill and the upcoming Triple 8 chinese restaurant at L.A. Live. The Singpoli Capital Group has also partnered on the project.
Monkee will offer dim sum, seafood and Cantonese staples in a 12,600-square-foot space with 500 seats.
The renovation is expected to start in May, with the restaurant opening in the fall, according to M2K’s Kerry Moy.
